Next week’s topic: Bullies!

Hey 2010. How's it Going?

So the first month of 2010 is almost over.

I was doing great with my New Years resolutions. I had resolved to read all the books I got for Christmas this year and I’m still doing that. And I was doing the Wii Fit pretty regularly but then I got the flu and was puking all over (literally- I got the flu in Echo Park and had to drive back to my house in West Holllywood and had to pull over to puke in front of a very fancy house in Hancock Park- sorry people who live in the fancy house I puked in front of!) Then I got super busy with my new show, so I haven’t been doing the Wii Fit. I thought it would be easier than going to the gym cause I could do it in my living room but turns out I can’t even find the time to do that.

Anyway- so far I have performed in 4 shows… which isn’t that many. It’s a slow start. But my friend Lauren Rochelle and I started this great Thursday night comedy show called Joke Lab. We’ve had 2 shows and they both went really well (look for some videos posted soon…) It’s every Thursday (except no show January 28th because I’m going snowboarding… but there is a show for sure every Thursday in February and hopefully March too.) It’s at this great performance space on La Brea called the Labcabin. If you’re in LA please come by and check it out. Here are all the details:

Joke Lab

The premise of Joke Lab is that every week 6-8 comedians are given a topic to create brand new material on or inspired by the topic for the week. The material can take any format as long as it is related to the topic in a way that will be apparent to the audience- can be sketch, a character or concept piece, storytelling, or stand-up. At the end of the show we take an audience suggestion for the next week’s topic and send it out to the comics booked on that show. So every week it’s a brand new show with new comics and new, never seen before material. There is only one rule for performers: everything performed on the show must be something you have come up with in the week before the show- this is not a place to re-hash old material. Joke Lab is all about coming up with something new and experimentation.

The show is FREE.
Beverages are available for purchase CASH ONLY.

Doors open at 8:30 show starts promptly at 9 so please get there early!!

To-Dos For the Last Day of the Oughts

1. Take dog out to pee and shit (this happens every day, but is very important none the less).
2. Have sex and try not to get pregnant. This is also very important.
3. Maybe make an Ebay auction to sell my new years resolution on eBay. (Still thinking about this and logistics. Anna David says I should do it.)
4. Hopefully receive Wii Console ordered from Amazon.com that was promised to arrive on December 31st and was purchased impulsively after Christmas with money that was supposed to be used to redecorate our apartment. New rugs will have to wait, we’re joining the Wiivolution!
5. Drive to Best Buy and buy Wii Fit Plus so that I can run in place in a cartoon world. (Purchasing said Wii Fit Plus with money from sale of old philosophy books from college to cash4books.net.) Suggestions on other must have Wii games appreciated.
6. Find out how old I am on Wii Fit and twitter about it.
7. Talk to my friend Lauren Rochelle about Joke Lab, the new show we are starting January 14th which will be every Thursday night at the Labcabin on LaBrea. More details on that later.
8. Read my boyfriends screenplay if he is done with it in time for me to read it. Struggle to give him helpful feedback because while I am very good at clicking Like on Facebook, I am not always very good at articulating why I like something. There will probably be moments of frustration but we will get though it and maybe repeat number 2.
9. Possibly go to New Years Eve party at UCB Theatre. Or possibly stay home and play Wii New Super Mario Bros.

It’s been over a year since I have done ANYthing on this site. It’s been so long that I even forgot how to log in for about 15 minutes. Luckily I pretty much only use about 6 different usernames and 7 different passwords so there were only 42 different combinations of those that it could have possibly been. (I did that math right?) Luckily again, I got it on the 5th try. That was AFTER I was able to refresh my memory on what to type into my browser to get to the backend of my website (which is a lot leaner than my actual backend-post-holiday-feasting). Anyway I should really write that kind of information down somewhere…

So I told my friend Anna David I MIGHT make it a New Years Resolution to updated my blog on a semi-regular basis. Notice the MIGHT and SEMI REGULAR. I add those caveats in case I don’t stick to it. That way, it’s not like I failed because I never really committed to it right?

See, if I really wanted to stick to it I would sell my possible failure on ebay, like I did when I quit smoking (I sold my last empty pack of cigarettes on ebay to the highest bidder with a money-back guarantee that if I ever started again I would refund the buyer.) So far, I have not had to do that and it’s been a few years since I quit smoking, but if I ever start again, my best friend from elementary school Julie June will get $8.79 (or whatever she paid) from me. So, I suppose if I was really serious about this resolution, I could sell my resolution on ebay. You buy my resolution, and if I fail, I’ll not only refund, but I’ll double your money. That would motivate me to do it probably. Okay now that I said that I think I might actually do that. I hate losing (ask my boyfriend- I cried when he stole my port while playing Settlers of Catan a few days ago). It’s one of the reasons I never bet. The other is I can’t afford to lose.

Okay, well maybe I will do that, maybe not. I am still being non-commital about it, as you can see.

I started off writing this blog thinking I would write out some 2010 resolutions but as you can see I got distracted by not being able to log in and instead wrote about that which lead to a possibly brilliant or possibly stupid idea to sell my writing resolution on ebay and then I recapped it all in this sentence you are reading now. Maybe later I will get to the rest of those resolutions.

Merry 5th Day of Christmas

Amanda

I’m writing for Madatoms.com, which is a new site that is just being made. Right now it’s not much to look at (site design coming soon) but it’s got some great funny content (by myself and others).

Check out my latest blog entry for Madatoms:
Hollywood Home and Garden: Mexican or Meth

You can find other stuff by me there too…
