Hey 2010. How's it Going?
Sunday January 24, 2010
CommentSo the first month of 2010 is almost over.
I was doing great with my New Years resolutions. I had resolved to read all the books I got for Christmas this year and I’m still doing that. And I was doing the Wii Fit pretty regularly but then I got the flu and was puking all over (literally- I got the flu in Echo Park and had to drive back to my house in West Holllywood and had to pull over to puke in front of a very fancy house in Hancock Park- sorry people who live in the fancy house I puked in front of!) Then I got super busy with my new show, so I haven’t been doing the Wii Fit. I thought it would be easier than going to the gym cause I could do it in my living room but turns out I can’t even find the time to do that.
Anyway- so far I have performed in 4 shows… which isn’t that many. It’s a slow start. But my friend Lauren Rochelle and I started this great Thursday night comedy show called Joke Lab. We’ve had 2 shows and they both went really well (look for some videos posted soon…) It’s every Thursday (except no show January 28th because I’m going snowboarding… but there is a show for sure every Thursday in February and hopefully March too.) It’s at this great performance space on La Brea called the Labcabin. If you’re in LA please come by and check it out. Here are all the details:
Joke Lab
The premise of Joke Lab is that every week 6-8 comedians are given a topic to create brand new material on or inspired by the topic for the week. The material can take any format as long as it is related to the topic in a way that will be apparent to the audience- can be sketch, a character or concept piece, storytelling, or stand-up. At the end of the show we take an audience suggestion for the next week’s topic and send it out to the comics booked on that show. So every week it’s a brand new show with new comics and new, never seen before material. There is only one rule for performers: everything performed on the show must be something you have come up with in the week before the show- this is not a place to re-hash old material. Joke Lab is all about coming up with something new and experimentation.
The show is FREE.
Beverages are available for purchase CASH ONLY.
Doors open at 8:30 show starts promptly at 9 so please get there early!!
